Nancy Coleman Read

Our beloved Nancy Coleman Read was called home to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, January 31, 2013. Nancy was born September 20, 1931 in Mart, Texas to the late Thomas Nugent and Arbell Post Coleman. She was raised in Mart, graduated Mart High School, and attended Baylor University where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education in 1952. While at Baylor, she was a member of Chi Omega sorority. Nancy married Dr. William Tyler Read on August 22, 1952. Their 60 years of marriage was strong and blessed with two children, Lezlie and Cole. She taught school while her husband was in medical school at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas and during his internship in Denver, Colorado. After settling in Tyler, Nancy decided to remain at home to care for her husband and children. Once her children reached adulthood, she embarked on a career of jewelry design and antiques. Her newfound passion gave her and her husband many memorable trips abroad searching for unique items to bring back to Tyler. Throughout her life, Nancy remained active in the community and was a member of Pollard Memorial United Methodist Church, Junior League of Tyler, Smith County Medical Society Alliance and Marion Wilcox Junior Garden Club. Nancy will be remembered and missed most dearly as a loyal and true wife, mother, and friend. She was a devout woman of strong faith who understood how richly she had been blessed. Her triumph as a cancer survivor was an inspiration to many and a testament to her faith in God. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Talmadge Lee Coleman and Harold Dero Coleman. She is survived by her husband William, her two children, daughter Lezlie Jinks and her husband, Jayson of Allen, Texas, son William Coleman Read of Dallas, Texas, and grandson Pearson Read Jinks of Allen, Texas plus nieces and nephews. The family would like to acknowledge with gratitude the care and support of the Hospice of East Texas during her final days. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Hospice of East Texas Foundation, 4111 University Blvd, Tyler 75701 or Pollard Memorial United Methodist Church, 3030 New Copeland Rd, Tyler 75701. Following a private family burial, a service to celebrate the life of Nancy will be held at Pollard Memorial United Methodist Church on Monday, February 4, 2013 at 11:00 AM. A reception will follow the service in the church parlor.
