Nelda Marie Stanley

Graveside services for Nelda Marie Stanley, 88, of Whitehouse, will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2016, at 11:00 AM at Walnut Grove Cemetery in Whitehouse, Texas under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home with her son, Chris Stanley, officiating. Mrs. Stanley passed away on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 in Whitehouse. She was born December 9, 1927 in Sylvester, Trinity County, Texas, to Clarence L. Crow and Bessie Crow. Nelda was a long time member of Colonial Hills Baptist Church in Tyler, and later, Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Whitehouse. She graduated from Gilmer High School and Tyler Commercial College. She spent her working years with Exxon Corporation in Tyler as a secretary. Above all, Nelda loved her family and family get-togethers. She took on life with humor and a twinkle of mischief in her eye. She loved life and laughter. There was always a place at her table if you needed a place to stay. The dictionary definition of “caretaker” must certainly include her name. Nelda was preceded in death by her mother and father, Clarence L. and Bessie Crow, her brother, Skipper Crow and her beloved husband of 54 years, Elmer Stanley. She is survived by her loving children, son, Steve Stanley and wife, Ruby of Salado; daughter, Susan Shivers and husband Paul of Whitehouse; son, Tim Stanley and wife Robin of Houston and son Chris Stanley and wife, Pennie of Montgomery. She is also survived by grandchildren, Cassie Shivers Dowdy and husband David of Flint, Matt Stanley of Austin, John Stanley and wife Sarah of Katy, Josh Shivers and wife Lydia of Ft. Worth, Luke Shivers and wife Tiana of Ft. Worth, Tyler Stanley and Ryan Stanley of Houston, and Kylie Stanley and Kennedy Stanley of Montgomery. She was also blessed with great grandchildren, Bailey and Addie Blanton of Flint and Ryan and Isaac Stanley of Katy. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Matt Stanley, John Stanley, Josh Shivers, Luke Shivers, Tyler Stanley, Ryan Stanley and David Dowdy. Visitation is scheduled from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday, October 7, 2016 at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway, in Tyler.
