Nola "Bitsy" Berryman

Nola “Bitsy” Broadfoot Berryman passed away March 20, 2025 in Tyler Texas. She was born May 12, 1938 to James and Nan Broadfoot in Clyde Texas. She married her high school sweetheart and love of her life, Wayne Berryman on August 23, 1958 in Clyde Texas. She is survived by her son, Michael Wayne Berryman and wife Karen of Richardson, Texas; her son-in-law Joseph Lorn Smith III “Trey” of Houston, Texas; grandsons Lorn Smith IV and wife Jessie of Littleton, Colorado; Benjamin Berryman and wife Lauren of Dallas, Texas; and Matthew and wife Cameron of Dallas, Texas. Great-grandchildren are: Luke, Beau and Banks Berryman of Dallas; Joseph Lorn V “Quinn” and Caroline Smith of Littleton Colorado; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister Beth Barr; daughter Belinda Diane Berryman Smith; and grandson Baine Paul Smith. Bitsy was a child of God. She was a member of the West Erwin Church of Christ in Tyler. She taught children's Bible classes for many years, and after God, her devotion was to her husband Wayne. She worked as a secretary in several offices in Abilene, Texas and Kilgore, Texas, but was mostly a devoted housewife. She was a wonderful homemaker, mother, grandmother, and a friend to everyone she knew. She was always available and willing to help when she saw need. Before her memory began to fade, she always knew how to “Remain Young.” She always had a good time no matter where she was, and her laugh is one that will never be forgotten. Bitsy took pride in her family and home. She devoted herself tirelessly to ensuring that everyone's needs and wants were met. She was a wonderful cook and seamstress. She worked endless hours sewing for her husband, children, and grandsons. She used to get tired of working on “jams” for her grandsons, wishing she could sew on something “frilly” for a granddaughter she never had. But she was devoted to those grandsons. She loved her great-grandchildren just as much, but was limited by health issues in what she was able to do for them. When Bitsy cooked she made everything with love and the knowledge that she learned from her mother. She was known by her family for the delicious roast, gravy, and monkey bread that she made for every special family meal. Desserts were her specialty and her meringue pies and cakes were always available for family and church gatherings. She taught her son and daughter how to be a gentleman and a lady and how to present themselves as godly individuals. She taught them to respect others and mostly how to depend on the Lord and have faith in him no matter what the circumstance. She was always thinking of others and doing special things that would make them smile. She was so kind hearted and loving and had such a great sense of humor that everyone loved her. But most of all Bitsy loved and was loved by her boyhood sweetheart and husband of so many years. They each had their own lives and interests, but they did everything together when it was possible. She had been prepared for a long time to be able to see those she loved again who preceded her in death. Only those who remain that love her so much were not ready for her to leave. But their consolation is knowing where she has gone. Visitation is Monday, March 24, 2025, at Stewart Family Funeral Home at 1 PM with her service beginning at 2 PM., with Dr. Jay Lockhart officiating. Burial will be at Rose Lawn Cemetery in Tyler. Pallbearers will be Chad Chauncey, Kelly Monahan, Cameron Williams, and grandsons Lorn Smith, Benjamin Berryman and Matthew Berryman. The family would like to thank Teresa High and the ladies who work with her who made it possible for Bitsy to remain at home. We also thank the doctors and staff associated with Christus Trinity Mother Frances Hospital who have taken wonderful care of her through the years and helped her through many difficult situations. Thank you also to Hospice of East Texas for providing excellent care for her and great empathy for the family.
