Norma Johnson Nichols

Services for Norma Jean Johnson Nichols, 83, of San Antonio will be held on Friday, January 24, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Pine Springs Baptist Church in Tyler, Texas. Burial will follow at Pine Springs Cemetery in Tyler, Texas under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home. Mrs. Nichols passed away Monday, January 13, 2025, in Austin, Texas. She was born September 23, 1941, in Tyler, Texas to Woodrow Wilson and Edna Hudnell Johnson. Norma was a member of Prestonwood Baptist Church, the Dominion Women’s Forum, and DIVA WOW. After she graduated from John Tyler High School in 1959, Norma attended Tyler Junior College and was a member of the Apache Belles. She went on to study and obtain her Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration at the University of Texas Dallas. After realizing her passion for public service, she returned back to school and received her Masters in Public Administration from the University of North Texas. After graduation, Norma worked as an economic developer and city planner for the City of Garland and Mesquite until she retired from the City of Farmers Branch in 2008. Norma cherished her adventures, especially her travels to London and Germany, where she created lasting memories. She loved working with and mentoring her colleagues and was passionate about attending and planning the women’s galas at the Dominion, always finding joy in the connections she made with lifelong friends. Most importantly, she loved her sons, daughters-in-law, and grandchildren, finding immense joy in their achievements and the time spent together. Family gatherings were a highlight for her, as she shared her love for desserts, teas, and Merit coffee. A frequent visitor to Tiago’s, she delighted in their chocolate cake, which became a beloved treat among her family and friends. Norma's vibrant spirit and passion for life will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Norma was preceded in death by her father and mother, Woodrow and Edna Hudnell Johnson of Pine Springs. She is survived by her loving family including her son, Erik and his wife, Heather and their daughter, Katie of Houston, Texas; her son, Heath and his wife, Christina and their children, Mason and Taylor of San Marcos, Texas; her sister, Linda O’Connor and brother-in-law, John of McKinney, Texas; and her sister Carole Baker of Houston, Texas, as well as, nephews, nieces, and loving extended family. Pallbearers will be Erik Nichols, Heath Nichols, Mason Nichols, David Pendleton, Ryan O’Connor, Jerod Roland, John Seger, and Bart Baker. Visitation is scheduled from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 24, 2025, at Pine Springs Baptist Church at, 2155 Count Road 334, in Tyler, Texas.
