Norman Edd Long

Norman Edd Long, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on April 28, 2025, at the age of 92. He was preceded in death by his son, William (Bill) Long, his brothers Naymon Long and Travis Long, his sister Darlene McKinley, and his half-brother Billy Long. Visitation will be held Saturday, May 10th at 1:00 pm at Stewart Family Funeral Home in Tyler, followed by a memorial service starting at 2:00 pm. Norm was born in East Texas and lived a life full of dedication and service. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 20 years, retiring in 1971 as Chief Master Sergeant. A Vietnam War veteran, he was deeply committed to his military service, and his sense of duty never wavered. After retiring from the Air Force, Norm continued to serve his community, becoming an active member of the Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Whitehouse. In addition to his military career, Norm was a successful entrepreneur. He worked with Southland Corporation for more than 20 years, retired, and then went on to own and manage a number of duplexes and a large mobile home park. He had a passion for real estate and development, flipping houses and developing an 18-lot housing project in the area. He is survived by his devoted wife of 72 years, Shirley Lesmeister Long of Whitehouse, TX; his daughter, Bobbie Goines Persinger of Whitehouse, TX; and his son, Don Long (Sheila) of Whitehouse, TX. He also leaves behind a legacy of love through his grandchildren Crockett Gambrel Long (Camaryn) of Dallas, TX; Benita Goines Tomlinson (Zach) of Pittsburg, TX; Bethany Goines Sutton (Trae) of Salado, TX; Jason Long (Tracy) of Liberty Hill, TX and great grandchildren Hayden, Rylie, Madison, and Aaron Tomlinson; Bekah and Avery Sutton; and Rider and Charley Long. Norm was a man of quiet strength, compassion, and a deep love for his family. He was always ready with a kind word, a helping hand, and a generous heart. His life’s journey will be remembered with great love by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Tunnels to Towers, Heart to Heart Hospice or a charity of your choice.
