Quintan Pollard Chamness

Services for Quintan Pollard Chamness, 92, of Tyler, will be held on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Stewart Family Funeral Home with Dr. Doug Baker and Rev. Gerry Giles officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Tyler under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home. Mr. Chamness passed away Friday, April 26, 2024, in his home of 59 years. He was born May 4, 1931, near Canton to Neeley and Wilmoth Pollard Chamness. He married Billie Margaret Bass on May 14, 1949. Quintan was a member of both Lanes Chapel Methodist and Marvin Methodist Churches during his lifetime. He taught Adult Sunday School for many years at Lanes Chapel and sang bass in the choir. He served actively on many committees at both Marvin and Lanes Chapel including Marvin’s Missions Ministry, where he touched the lives of many people. Additionally, he was a member of the Pairs and Parents Sunday School class for several decades. He and Billie were involved in service at Methodist Children’s Home in Waco for many years. Several of those children have stayed in touch throughout their lives. He followed a dream to found a Methodist Retirement community in Tyler, which led to the establishment of Meadow Lake Senior Living and he served on its Board for many years. After the death of his father at age 14, he got his driver’s license and helped support his mother and younger brother. Starting his career as an interior decorator at Swann’s, he then moved to self-owned businesses starting with Chamness Furniture which in time became Chamness TV and Appliance Center. In his 40’s, he realized an interest in developing commercial real estate which led to building the Olde English Village among other commercial buildings. Although he had always owned a small herd of cattle, he expanded into a large cow/calf operation with the acquisition of a 1000+ acre ranch near Poynor, TX and lived out his dream of being a cattleman with a family owned ranch. Throughout their marriage, he was supported by his wife and best friend who proudly worked alongside him in everything he did. They were looking forward to celebrating their 75th wedding anniversary on May 12th. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Billie, his brother Devon Chamness and great-grandson Emmett Landry Broyles. He is survived by his loving family, including his 3 daughters, Anquinette and husband David Eikner, Tina and husband Ken Baxter, and René and husband Tony Robertson. His 6 grandchildren are Erik Eikner, Amy Hardaway, Elizabeth Aranguren, Kristin Broyles, Drew Robertson, and Jaden Robertson. There are also 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. Visitation is following the service at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway, in Tyler. If desired, memorials may be made to Marvin Methodist’s Eternal Flame Fund or Mission Ministry.
