Radiance Woodall Young

Services for Radiance Woodall Young, 83 of Tyler, will be held on Monday, April 22, 2013, at 3:00 p.m. in the Green Acres Baptist Church Chapel with Dr. Darryle Dunks officiating. Burial will follow at Cathedral in the Pines Cemetery under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home. Radiance Young passed away April 18, 2013 under the care of Hospice of East Texas. She was born November 1, 1929 in Turney, Texas to Wylie Harmon and Mary Jessie Watson Woodall. Radiance was a member of Green Acres Baptist Church and attended the Care and Share Sunday School class. She graduated from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas, and then received her Master’s degree from Peabody College of Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. She taught English at Tyler High and then Tyler Junior College where she was a professor of English for 27 years. Radiance taught a total of 37 years including Jacksonville ISD, Tyler High in Tyler, Texas and Tyler Junior College. She also served as president of Delta Kappa Gamma Educational Foundation, and she later served as president and membership chairperson of the Texas Retired Teachers Association. Radiance was preceded in death by her parents, brother-in-law Robert and his wife Virginia Young, and her sister-in-law Dorothy Young Brown and her husband Johnny Bob Brown. She is survived by her loving family including her husband of 64 years, Tommy Young of Tyler; daughters, Jane Young Maloney and husband Tim of Lindale and Rhonda Kay Young of Arp; grandchildren Joe Martel, Jr. and Austin Martel, both of Tyler, brother-in-law Gordon and wife Judie Young of Lake Tapps, Washington. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Tim Maloney, Dr. Alan Barnes, Bill Burt, Sherwood Smith, Reuben Mize, and Phil Barrett. Honorary pallbearers will be Tom Kelly, Share and Care Sunday School Class of GABC and her colleagues of the TJC English Department. Visitation is scheduled from 4:00–6:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 21, 2013 at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway, in Tyler. Many thanks for her excellent care given during her brief illness by her long time friend Johnny Stewart, Jr., Mother Frances Hospital, Hospice of East Texas, and her numerous relatives and friends.
