Robert "Bob" Eugene Stagner

Services for Robert E. “Bob” Stagner, 86 of Tyler, will be held on Sunday, June 12, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Westwood Baptist Church in Tyler with Rev. Ron Moore and Rev. Tom Crawford officiating. Burial will follow at Cathedral in the Pines Cemetery in Tyler under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home. Bob passed away on Thursday morning at his home in Tyler after an illness of several months. Bob was born at his family home in Edom on January 14, 1930 to Jeanette and Julius H. Stagner. He was a 1947 graduate of Van High School where he played on the football and basketball teams. He also attended Tyler Junior College and North Texas State College, now the University of North Texas. He married his high school sweetheart, Carolyn Rhodes on June 22, 1951 whom he called his “Sweets” for 73 years. They would have been married 65 years later this month. In 1955 Bob and Carolyn joined Queen Street Baptist Church, which later became Westwood Baptist Church. He was firmly rooted in his Christian faith and devoted to his church and the people in it. He was a faithful servant to the Lord and his church, serving as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and finance chairman. Bob was in the insurance business for many years, founding the Stagner Insurance Agency in the early 1950s. That company evolved through the years to become FD&S Insurance, the name it goes by today. He retired in 1995. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his brother, Julius M. Stagner and a son-in-law, Stephen Boyd. He is survived by his loving family including his wife, Carolyn of Tyler; two sons, Steve Stagner and wife Lisa of Austin and Stuart Stagner and wife Sue Ann of Irving; daughter, Suzanne Boyd of Tyler; brother, Les Stagner of Longview; six grandchildren, Shannon von der Gruen and husband Chris, Scott Boyd, Sheriann Peart and husband Seth, Sara Boyd and Kassie and Jake Stagner. Pallbearers will be Charles Plyler, Dorman Jennings, Wayne Martin, Dwight Palmer, Ed Davault and Geary McCrary. Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of Westwood Baptist Church. Visitation is scheduled from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway, in Tyler. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Westwood Baptist Church, 820 NNW Loop 323, Tyler, TX 75702.
