Dr. Robert C. Jolly

With profound love and gratitude for a life well lived, we celebrate the life of Dr. Robert Carroll Jolly, who passed away at home, with his family by his side, on August 22, 2026, at the age of 64. Born on September 6, 1961, at Kindley Air Force Base, Hamilton, Bermuda, he lived a life defined by service, leadership, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to making the lives of others better. Whether in his home, his community, or the schools he faithfully served, he believed every person deserved to be seen, encouraged, and given the opportunity to succeed. For more than 30 years, he dedicated his life to public education. He began his career as a mathematics teacher and football coach before serving as an assistant principal, principal, and ultimately superintendent. While his responsibilities grew over the years, his purpose to invest in people never changed. Throughout his distinguished career, he had the privilege of being a part of the lives of more than 40,000 students. He celebrated their successes, encouraged them through life's challenges, and believed every child had the potential to achieve great things. Just as importantly, he mentored and inspired countless teachers, coaches, administrators, and support staff. He believed that great schools were built by great people, and he worked tirelessly to encourage those around him to become the very best educators and leaders they could be. His influence reached far beyond the classroom and will continue to be felt in the lives of those he taught, led, and inspired for generations to come. Above all else, he cherished his family. He shared more than 26 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Tammy, whose love and devotion remained steadfast through every joy and every challenge. He was a proud father to his daughter, Sherrol, and to his son, Christopher. His family was the center of his world, and he treasured the moments they spent together. Outside of work, he found happiness in life's simple pleasures. He loved spending time on the golf course, camping with his family, and gathering everyone around the grill for one of his famous barbecues. Whether enjoying a weekend at the campground, watching a game, or sharing stories over a meal, he found his greatest joy in being surrounded by the people he loved. Those who knew him will remember his quiet strength, steady leadership, quick wit, and generous heart. He led by example, treated others with respect, and believed that kindness, honesty, and hard work were the foundations of a meaningful life. His legacy is not measured by the titles he held, but by the lives he changed. It lives on in the thousands of students who are better because he believed in them, the educators and staff members he mentored, the communities he strengthened, and the family he loved without reservation. He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Tammy; his daughter, Sherrol Wenclewicz and her husband Tony (Ohio); his son, Christopher Jolly (Tyler); and his grandson, Hudson Robert Wenclewicz (Ohio); his sisters, Debra Renee Barber (Dallas) and Paula Jones and her husband Larry (The Colony); and many loving nieces and nephews, cousins, countless friends, former students, colleagues, and community members who will forever be grateful for the impact he made on their lives. He was preceded in death by his father, Bobby Jolly and mother, Marian Elizabeth Jolly. Though our hearts will forever miss him, we take comfort in knowing that a life spent serving others leaves a legacy that never fades. His lessons will continue through those he mentored, his compassion will live on in those he inspired, and his love will remain forever in the hearts of those who were blessed to know him. His greatest legacy was never the positions he held; it was the people he believed in. A celebration of his life will be held at First Christian Church in Tyler, Texas at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2026. Visitation and reception will follow at the church. Honorary pallbearers will be Terry Jolly, Tony Jolly, Larry Jones, Alan Lovell, and Michael McGinnis (deceased). In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to St Jude Children’s Cancer Research or SPCA East Texas Pets for Veterans of East Texas Program, honoring his lifelong passion for investing in the lives of others.
