Ronald "Ronnie" Lynn Riggs

Memorial services for Ronald “Ronnie” Lynn Riggs, 75, of Tyler, will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 12, 2023 at Stewart Family Funeral Home, with Rev. Andy Fauss officiating. Ronnie passed away Thursday, August 3, 2023 in Tyler. He was born October 20, 1947 in Tyler, TX. He attended Tyler High School and received his Cosmetology license from Barrow Beauty School at age 16. He would go on to teach at that school. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Vietnam War. He began his career as a hair stylist in July 1966. In 1973, Ronnie opened his first hair salon, Ronnie’s Hair-um, which he owned and operated until he retired in 2022. He attended Rise Baptist Church in Tyler. Ronnie was preceded in death by his father, Clayton KelT Riggs and mother, Audrey Ernestine Riggs. He is survived by his daughter, Jeradee Riggs Zips; son-in-law, Craig D. Zips of Tyler; son, Clay Riggs and daughter-in-law, Liz Cace Riggs, of Tyler; grandchildren, Caden Walker Zips, Carleigh Quinn Zips and Cale Campbell Zips; former wife, Janice Lawless; brother, Donald Riggs and wife, Rebecca Riggs, of Tyler; niece, Gwen Riggs; nephew, Dennis Riggs and wife Anais Riggs; and their children, Max and Arthur. Ronnie was an avid poker player and also enjoyed playing 42 and backgammon, or just about any game that would give him an opportunity to spend time with friends and family. Ronnie spent a lot of his free time working on his farm in Starrville, Texas, which he was very proud of. Family was always Ronnie’s top priority, and his grandchildren were his pride and joy. He was their number one babysitter as they were growing up and Ronnie was always available to spend time with them, whether he had plans or not. His customers will remember Ronnie for his storytelling. Ronnie never met a stranger, and he will always be remembered for his kind-hearted and fun-loving nature. A private burial will be held at Barber Cemetery in Starrville, under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home. Honorary Pallbearers will be Doug Allgood, Bob Bozick, Mike Cooper, Abraham Eastman, Gary Easterling, Sam Fields, Dr. Jerry Mazurek, Keith Miller, Larry Odom and Sam Roosth. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of East Texas (4111 University Blvd, Tyler, TX 75701).
