Ruth Passmore Sorsby

Services for Ruth Passmore Sorsby of Tyler, TX, will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel of First Baptist Church in Tyler with visitation beginning at 1:30 p.m. Rev. Pike Wisner will be officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Cemetery in Tyler under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home. Ruth was born on January 1, 1930, in Brady, TX to O.N. and Delia Passmore. She left this world on Monday, December 4, 2023, with family by her side. Ruth lived her life full of faith and joy even through the most difficult times. She always said that she could handle anything because she knew God was with her. Ruth’s greatest love on this earth were her six children. Three were there to meet her as she entered heaven. She loved singing in her church choir and treasured the friendships with the ladies in her Sunday school class. She spent years attending Bible Study Fellowship and read her beloved Bible every day. Anyone who knew her knew she loved basketball, especially the San Antonio Spurs and the Dallas Mavericks. She occasionally struggled with whether she should attend choir practice or watch an NBA game. She usually chose choir practice but then raced home to catch the end of the game. She treasured spending time with her grandchildren and they thought their Mimi hung the moon. Ruth, also, enjoyed spending time outdoors taking care of her yard, cooking meals for her family, and singing along with her favorite music, usually The Beatles or George Strait. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, June Cooper, her brothers, Pint Passmore and Morris Passmore, her daughter, Debbie Edwards, her sons, Scottie Edwards and Allyn Sorsby, her grandson, Jon Smith, as well as several nephews and nieces. She is survived by her children, Leslie Smith, Matthew Edwards, and Carolyn Taylor as well as nine grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, her nephew, Paul Edwards, and her daughter-in-law, Lauri Britt. While Ruth’s passing brings with it deep sadness and loss, everyone who loved her knows she is with the Lord she loved so much and the family and friends she loved that have gone on before her. We will forever remember her beautiful smile and the light she brought into our lives.
