Sally Leihgeber

Sally Leihgeber, age 72, peacefully ended her earthly journey at her home in The Cascades, Tyler, Texas on Thursday, February 26, 2009. She had been ill with Picks Disease for 12 years and was lovingly cared for by her husband Jim, throughout her long illness. She was born December 11, 1936 in Hamilton, Ohio to Charles V. “Vick” and Madge L. Bolton. Sally, an only child, married her high school sweetheart, Paul James “Jim” Leihgeber, on November 5, 1955. Sally and Jim were members of the Hamilton High School class of 1954 where Sally was a cheerleader and Homecoming Queen. She and Jim moved to Denton Texas in 1972 then relocated to Tyler, Texas in 2000. Sally had many interests; she especially loved playing the piano, enjoyed golf and was a competitive tennis player. Mrs. Leihgeber was preceded in death by her father in 1965 and by her mother in 2000. Sally is survived by her loving family including her husband of 53 years, Jim Leihgeber, of Tyler, Texas; daughter Vicki Leihgeber and granddaughters Jenna and Allysa “Ally” of Tyler, Texas; son, Dr. Tim Leihgeber and wife Yvette, of Tyler, Texas and granddaughters Lauren, Megan and Payton; and son David Leihgeber of Dallas, Texas; She will be remembered and cherished by many as a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the Hospice of East Texas staff for the wonderful and compassionate care given to Sally in the final chapter of her life. Much appreciation is also expressed for the many volunteer hours given by the Wonderful Wednesdays Day Club of the Alzheimer’s Alliance of Northeast Texas during Sally’s last years. The love and support given by the people of these two organizations will always be remembered. A memorial service is being conducted by Stewart Family Funeral Home and will be held on Monday, March 2, 2009 at 7:00 PM in the Stewart Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Vergie Holbrook officiating. Visitation is scheduled for one hour prior to the memorial service on Monday, March 2, 2009 from 6:00-7:00 PM at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway, in Tyler.
