Shawni Mae Nix

The memorial service for Shawni Mae Nix, 80, of Tyler will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Stewart Family Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Sam Fisher officiating under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home. The visitation will follow the conclusion of the memorial service. Mrs. Shawni Nix passed away Tuesday, September 16, 2025 in Tyler. She was born December 11, 1944, in Tooele, Utah to Thomas and Beulah Moody. Shawni was a member of New Covenant Church, a graduate of Victory Bible College and Victory Mission School, and co-owner of Helping Hands Mission. She participated in Kairos (prison ministry), Walk to Emmaus/Tres Dias, and many other church-related outreach projects. Together, Shawni and Mike served on several mission trips to Africa, Mexico, Guatemala, and El Salvador. Shawni faithfully opened her home to lead a cherished Bible study lovingly known as the “Glory Girls.” Together they studied scripture, prayed fervently, and shared meals in joyful celebration of their faith and friendship. Shawni was well known for her unwavering beliefs and unashamed devotion to Jesus Christ. Shawni was also a gifted and accomplished artist. She touched countless lives with her creative talents. Her love for painting not only brought beauty into the world but also fostered lifelong and enduring friendships. Shawni was also a business co-owner of Nix Department Store, Nix Auto Exchange, Littlefield Golf Course, and Nix Rental Properties. Shawni was preceded in death by her loving husband, James Mike Nix, father Thomas Moody, mother Beulah Moody, sister Sharon Stiles and brothers Vern Knight and Jerry Knight. She is survived by her loving family including daughter Janet Watson and husband Cliff, daughter Jeannia Dykman and husband Greg, daughter Melissa Gill and husband Chris. Grandchildren include Seth Watson and wife Danica, Jordan Watson Humphries and husband Daren, Travis Dykman and wife Meagan, Madison Watson Falk and husband Sam, Tanner Dykman and wife Melanie, Alie Watson Klembara and husband Grant and Joshua Gill. Great-grandchildren include Brooks, Will and Ella Kate Watson, Wesley and Witten Dykman, Oliver and Hazel Falk and Eve Dykman. Shawni Nix is also survived by her siblings Margaret Carlson and Phyllis Thorton and numerous nieces, nephews and additional family members. Honorary pallbearers are Seth Watson, Travis Dykman, Tanner Dykman, Joshua Gill, Sam Falk, Daren Humphries, and Grant Klembara. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the New Covenant Church of Tyler, TX, or Hospice of East Texas.
