Shirley Utz

Services for Shirley Ann Conant Utz, of Longview will be held on Tuesday, April 1, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Stewart Family funeral Home with Rev. Ed Hogan and Alden Utz officiating. Burial will follow at Tyler Memorial Park Cemetery in Tyler under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home. Shirley passed away Tuesday, March 25, 2025 in Tyler. She was born on March 20, 1940, in Angus, Texas to Homer Freeman Conant and Maggie Viola Massey Conant. She grew up in Tyler and attended Tyler High School where she met the love of her life Elvyn Utz. They married in 1958 at Friendly Baptist Church in Tyler. After moving to Longview, the couple became members of Mobberly Baptist Church and raised their family there. Shirley loved Jesus and was a devoted prayer warrior. She spent most of her day praying for those in need. She loved to talk. She loved to laugh. Spending time with her was always a good laugh. She loved flowers and her arrangements were the best in town. Her husband never left the grocery store without a fresh bouquet to bring home to her. She saw the beauty in the simplest of things. She would often walk outside and marvel at a pinecone or leaf on the ground and bring it in the house as decor for the table. She loved her family. Every time she saw a loved one, she asked them, “do you know how much I love you?” The response was often, “yes, because you tell me every time I see you.” Friends and family members always left her house knowing they were loved by her. Shirley was preceded in death by her mother and father; her sister Sybil Louise Conant Bailey; and her brother Thurman Lee Conant; son Jeffrey David Utz and her husband of almost 62 years James Elvyn Utz. She is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Carrie Ann and Cameron Potter and Amy and Doug Fouse; one son and daughter-in-law Byron and Ronda Tapp Utz; grandchildren, Alden Utz, Alex Utz, Julian Utz, and Chloe Fouse Cotts; and one great-grandchild William Jeffrey Cotts. Visitation is scheduled from 1:00-2:00 p.m. on April 1, 2025 at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway, in Tyler. If desired, memorials may be made in her honor to Kingdom Life Academy at 2804 Garden Valley Road, Tyler, Texas 75702.
