Stanley Drew Sheppard

Stanley Drew Sheppard was born on March 17, 1967, to Joyce Croft Sheppard and Harvey Sheppard. He married his sweetheart of 34 years, Deana Sheppard, on July 11, 1992. Drew went to his Heavenly home on Friday, July 31, 2026. Drew was a devoted law enforcement officer who considered his work a calling, not just a career. Lieutenant Sheppard devoted nearly three decades of his life to the service and protection of the people of Texas. He began his law enforcement career with the Houston Police Department, joining on October 28, 1996, as a member of Academy Class #169. Over the course of 23 years with the Department, he served with distinction across a wide range of assignments, including the South Central, Northeast, and Central Divisions, as well as the Auto Theft, Criminal Intelligence, and Airport (IAH) Divisions. The breadth of his service reflected both his versatility and the trust his superiors placed in him. He retired honorably from the Houston Police Department on October 5, 2019. His commitment to public service did not waiver in retirement. He immediately joined the Smith County Sheriff's Office, where he lent his experience to the Texas Anti-Gang Unit. On September 1, 2024, he brought his considerable expertise to the Texas Financial Crimes Intelligence Center, serving as a Special Agent. His leadership, dedication, and character were recognized on July 10, 2026, when he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant over the Headquarters Field Office, a role he had earned through a lifetime of steadfast service. Beyond his rank and his record, Drew was a trusted colleague and a devoted friend to those who had the privilege of working alongside him. Drew was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was in love with his family and was so proud of his children. Drew enjoyed traveling, cruising, hunting, fishing, shooting at the gun range, and spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed teasing those he loved the most and telling some really great dad jokes that he often found funnier than others did. He was passionate about being an American and loved his country. He was a gifted story teller and could capture the attention of all who would listen. He loved his God and devoted his life to living for Him and lived his faith boldly. He is survived by his wife, Deana Sheppard, daughter, Kaylin Moore and her husband Colby Moore of Lindale and his son Liam Sheppard of Tyler. He was Pops to his sweet Willow Moore. He is also survived by his sister, Terry Murphy and husband Philip Murphy, his brother Dennis Sheppard and wife Randi Sheppard, and brother John Brown and his wife Andrea. He was Uncle Drew to many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Joyce Sheppard. Pallbearers will be Liam Sheppard, Brett Morton, Jeremy Sheppard, David Murphy, John Brown, Colby Moore, Clint Mitchell, and Eric Guyer. Services for Stanley Drew Sheppard, 59, of Tyler, will be held on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Green Acres Baptist Church in Tyler with Dale Morton officiating.
