Vida Richter

Services for Vida Gay Richter, age 73, of Tyler, will be held on Friday, August 6, 2010, at 10:00 AM at the First United Methodist Church in Weatherford, Oklahoma with Rev. Lynn Brack officiating. Burial will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery in Weatherford, Oklahoma under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home. Local arrangements are under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home. Mrs. Richter passed away suddenly, Sunday, August 1, 2010, in their home with her husband by her side. Vida Gay Richter, daughter of Stella and Walter Umbach, grew up on a farm near Weatherford, Oklahoma. She attended Weatherford Public Schools and Southwestern University. She married Bill Haney in November, 1955. They were blessed with three sons, Ronald Gene, Richard Lee, and Randal Dean. They lived in Hooker, Oklahoma where Bill coached for many years before moving to Coon Rapids, Iowa in 1966 where Vida was active in the Community Theater and enjoyed golf and bowling. They later moved to Weatherford, Oklahoma. Mrs. Richter married Bruce Richter on December 6, 1980 at Camp Le Jeune, North Carolina. Bruce and Vida lived in North Carolina for a short period before moving to Weatherford, Oklahoma. Vida worked at the Owl Photo while Bruce served in the Marine’s in Okinawa. When Bruce returned, they resided in Quantico, Virginia where Vida Gay worked at the Marine Shop. In 1984 Bruce and Vida gay moved back to Weatherford, Oklahoma where Vida worked at the Savings and Loan as Bruce finished his Master’s Degree at Southwestern State College. The couple moved to Galveston, Texas in 1989 when Bruce accepted a teaching position there. Vida worked at the personnel office at Wal-Mart. In 1999 Mr. and Mrs. Richter moved to Tyler, Texas where she worked in the personnel office at Wal-Mart until her retirement in 2007. Mrs. Richter was preceded in death by her parents, Stella and Walter Umbach and one son, Ronnie Haney. Vida is survived by her loving family, including her husband Bruce Richter of Tyler, Texas; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Rick and Liz Haney and granddaughter Maggie Lee of Salado, Texas; son, Randy Haney of Walnut Springs, Texas; sister and brother-in-law Terry and Steve Lowe of Tyler, Texas; sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Charley Johnson of Altus, Oklahoma; a host of cousins, nieces and nephews who loved her dearly and one very special Basset Hound, Too Tall who was always by her sided providing love and comfort. Visitation is scheduled from 6:00 – 8:00 PM, Thursday, August 5, 2010 at Lockstone Funeral Home in Weatherford, Oklahoma. Memorials in honor of Vida Gay Richter may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the First United Methodist Church of Weatherford, Oklahoma.
