Walter Wedgeworth

Services for Walter E. Wedgeworth, 64 of Tyler, will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2009 at 7:30 PM at Stewart Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Johnston officiating. Mr. Wedgeworth passed away, Sunday, May 24, 2009 at the Hospice of East Texas in Tyler. He was born August 31, 1944 in Tyler to Clyde Newton Wedgeworth and Martha Smith Wedgeworth. Mr. Wedgeworth lived in East Texas most of his life. The last 48 years he resided in Tyler. He graduated high school in LaHabra, California. He loved to hunt and fish and he enjoyed feeding his squirrels and birds. Walter was a baseball coach for a number of years taking his team to a state championship. He was most proud of his wife who lovingly tended to his every need and worked side by side with him for the last 29 years. One of his greatest pleasures was being involved with his children and grandchildren. He started his working career with Coburn Supply. In 1980 he and a partner opened Athens Supply where he managed the business for 15 years. The last 13 years he was the manager for Standard Supply in Athens, Texas. Mr. Wedgeworth was preceded in death by his dad, brother Pat Wedgeworth and sister Marilyn Cain. He is survived by his loving family including his wife of 44 years, Patricia Morris Wedgeworth of Tyler; son Gene Wedgeworth and wife Stacie of Frisco; daughter Deanne Wedgeworth Gabriel and husband Stan of Lufkin; grandchildren Evan Wedgeworth, Ethan Wedgeworth, Worth Gabriel and Lucy Gabriel; mother Martha Wedgeworth; brothers, Allen Wedgeworth and wife Joyce of Tyler, Roger Wedgeworth of Houston, Bill Wedgeworth of Houston; sister Louise Hartman and husband Danny of Lufkin; and his mother-in-law Virginia Morris. He was also very fond of numerous brother and sister’s-in-law, nieces and nephews. Visitation is scheduled from 6:00 to 7:30 P.M.
