William "Bill" Bailey Bain

William Bailey Bain (Bill) went to be with our Lord and Savior on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at the age of 92. Bill was born in Smith County, Texas on December 24, 1932, to Amos Hopkins Bain and Lula Elizabeth Wallace Bain. Bill and his siblings were raised on Bain Hill in Flint, Texas where many family members still live today. Bill was a Graduate of Bullard High School Class of 1950 and was voted as class favorite. Bill attended Tyler Junior College for one year. In 1952, Bill joined the Army and installed phone lines in Japan during the Korean War. In 1954, Bill came back to Bain Hill and worked with his father trading horses and cows. Bill met his Wife Jo Ann Beaird Bain when he went to the hospital to donate blood for his Sister-In-Law who had just given birth, and Jo Ann was the technician who drew his blood. Married in 1959, Bill and Jo Ann had their first Child Michael Bailey Bain in 1961. Eventually moving to the Houston area, Bill and Jo Ann had a daughter named Catherine Elizabeth Bain (Cathy) in 1971. Bill worked in the car industry for decades. He was a beloved and favorite team member at Luke Johnson Ford, Sam Montgomery Oldsmobile, and in his later years he worked with his best friend and business partner, Jim Schultz. The family had many wonderful experiences on their deck boat on Lake Livingston from the 1970’s-2000’s spending treasured time with family and friends. Bill and Jo Ann moved to Lake Livingston full-time in 2002 and remained there happily for many years. Waiting happily in Heaven for Bill was his Beloved Wife of 65 years, Jo Ann Beaird Bain, son Mike, Granddaughter Margaret Catherine Bain (Maggie), Daughter-in-law Wendy Tankersley Bain, Grandson-in-law Shawn Wood, and Great-Granddaughter Paisley Tankersley. Also waiting in Heaven are Bill’s Parents, Amos Hopkins Bain and Lula Elizabeth Wallace Bain, his Brothers James, Floyd, Robert, Joe, Herman, HL and Sisters Velma Bain Horton, Melba Joyce Bain Neeley, and Dollie Mae Bain Taylor. Bill is survived by his daughter Cathy Bain. Also survived by Granddaughter Natalie Blakely (Chris) and children Austin Wood and Madison Blakely. Bill is also survived by his Granddaughter Maggie’s children Trenton Bartosh (Greg Bartosh), Carter and Raven Robinson (Mike Robinson), Granddaughter Erica Fosdick (Trey) and children Kailynn, Keagan, and Kaige, Granddaughter Heather Holmes (Greg) and children Stephen, Xandra, Phoenix, Gianni, and his Grandson Mat Tankersley (Lacey) and children Kendyl and Ryan. Also survived by his Brother David Bain and wife Carolyn, Sister Ethelene Bain Tate, Sister Margie Bain Ralson and Husband Clifton, and Beloved Family Member Ginny Hammers (Natalie and Maggie’s’ mother). Bill had very close relationships with his nieces and nephews-everyone loved their Uncle Bill and his ever-present smile. A celebration of Life will be held at Stewart Family Funeral Home at 2pm on Thursday, June 12, 2025, in Tyler, Texas with a visitation at 1pm. Burial will follow at Flint Cemetery in Flint, Texas. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the following people for helping Bill and Jo Ann in their later years: Carriage Inn Conroe (residents and staff), Harbor Hospice, Divine Life Change LLC, the Wayne Gladden Family, and Special Friend and Caregiver Stacy Thompson.
