William "Randy" Orand Key Sr.

William Orand “Randy” Key, 72, passed away on May 23, 2026. Randy was born on June 18, 1953, in Tyler, Texas, to Homer William Key and Eugenia Orand Key. Randy attended Robert E. Lee High School in Tyler and graduated from Southern Methodist University in 1974, where he was a proud member and chapter president of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. After earning additional certifications in real estate and trust banking, Randy began a successful career in banking. He became head of the Trust Accounting Department at Citizens First National Bank before founding Key Data Systems in 1981. On February 18, 1978, Randy married the love of his life, Martha Malone. Together they shared a remarkable partnership built on friendship, devotion, and joy. They loved cooking together, spending time in Dallas, enjoying weekends at Lake Tyler with their children, and traveling to Santa Fe, Houston, and Galveston to visit family. More than anything, Randy and Martha simply loved being together. Randy was deeply devoted to the Tyler community and generously gave his time to numerous civic and charitable organizations. He served on the Board of Directors of Citizens First National Bank, later First City Bank, and was a faithful member of Christ Episcopal Church. An enthusiastic supporter of the Texas Rose Festival, Randy served as its President in 2001 and also served on the Board of Directors of the Tyler Rose Museum. In addition, he was President of the Order of the Rose. Above all, Randy was devoted to his family. He especially loved supporting his children in their activities and sporting events at All Saints Episcopal School, where he served as president of the All Saints Booster Club. He also volunteered, coached, and served as President of Rose Capital West Little League. One of Randy’s greatest personal joys was playing the guitar, a passion he continued to pursue through lessons until recently. Randy was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Martha Key, and by his parents, Homer and Jean Key. He is survived by his son, William Orand Key Jr. and wife, Suzie; daughter, Caroline Malone Key; and grandchildren, Gracie Key, Annie Malone Key, Miller Orand Key, and Kristin and Mady. He is also survived by his brother, Denning Key and wife, Jan; and nieces Frances Key, Sarah McKellar, and Katy McKellar. Randy is further survived by his sister, Eugenia Key Son; niece, Meg Randolph and husband, Johnnie, and children Jack Randolph, Charlie Randolph, Margaret Randolph. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Elizabeth Malone; niece, Meg Malone; nephews Carter Malone and wife, Brooke, and Justin Malone and wife, Alison; and niece, Kendal Malone Rodgers and husband, Scott. He is further survived by his longtime colleague and friend, Holly Marsh. Randy is survived by numerous cousins and family members in the Ewing, Thompson, Lynch and Key families. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to caregivers Nancy Andersen and Aracely Valle for their compassionate care and friendship. Honorary pallbearers are all who knew and loved Randy throughout the years. Following a private graveside service, a memorial service celebrating Randy’s life will be held at Christ Episcopal Church in Tyler on Tuesday, June 2, 2026 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to All Saints Episcopal School Athletic Department, Rose Capital West Little League, and The Tyler Rose Museum.
