Yvonne Mary Kamel

Yvonne Mary Kamel, 86, daughter of Namie and Emily Nasser Kamel (deceased) was born on September 21, 1937, and was peacefully called by our heavenly Father on March 11, 2024, and joyously welcomed into her new and eternal life by her parents, brother, and sisters. Yvonne was a long-time resident of Tyler, Texas where she attended St. Gregory Catholic Elementary School and Hogg Junior High School. She spent her high school years at Tyler High School and then attended Tyler Junior College, where she received a Secretarial Degree. She began her work career when she went to work for Mary Sedberry as her secretary for many years. Then in 1979, she began her career at Howe Baker Engineers and retired after 25 years. She was always a favorite with everyone she worked with and well thought of throughout her career for her loving nature and pleasant personality. After her retirement, she spent most of her time serving her church, the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, in many ways. She was a long-time member of the Altar Society and the Catholic Daughters. For a number of years, she worked in the office preparing the weekly bulletins for distribution each weekend. She was also a member of The Chapel of Saints Peter and Paul and a long-time member of the American Business Women’s Association of Tyler. Yvonne was a dedicated member of the Cedars of Lebanon and over the years held many offices as well as a past president. Her love for her family, friends, and heritage was evident in her enthusiasm and the happiness she brought to others on so many special occasions. She was a wonderful volunteer when it came to serving others. Yvonne truly enjoyed her family, friends, and neighbors and considered all of them as family. She was very generous with her time and loving care for others in so many ways. She was very sociable and loved her weekly Shanghai card games with her family and friends. Every holiday was a special day in her home and everyone looked forward to enjoying some great food and interesting conversation. She loved to read and watch television and never missed the evening news. Loved her popcorn and candy snack before heading to bed each night. She was famous for her cooking skills, especially her baked Kibbi, great holiday desserts and other Lebanese foods. All of us felt a Lebanese dinner was just not complete without her Kibbi or her Meat Pies and wonderful pies. Yvonne was predeceased in death by her parents, Namie and Emily Nasser Kamel, brothers, Monsignor Raphael Kamel, Raymond Kamel, and Anthony Kamel (Delores Eltife) and her sisters, Sister Genevieve Kamel (Sister Raphael Marie) of the School Sisters of Notre Dame and Amelia Kamel Procell (Jim Procell), and niece, Yvonne Marie Procell. She is survived by her devoted twin sister, Yvette Kamel; her nephew, Paul Procell and his wife, Ethel, daughter, Lily and son, Anthony Procell; niece, Denise Procell Hallmark and husband Shane and their twin sons, Jimmy and Johnny; and Sister Gemma Marie Dittle of the School Sisters of Notre Dame who was a loyal friend and wonderful caregiver for our Sister Genevieve. Yvonne is also survived by many other extended cousins and family members. The visitation will be at Stewart Family Funeral Home on Monday, March 18, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. and the Rosary at 6:00 p.m. The Memorial Mass service to celebrate Yvonne’s life will be held on March 19, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Saints Peter and Paul, Tyler, Texas. Following the service she will be laid to rest at Rose Hill Cemetery, 2400 S. Donnybrook Avenue, Tyler, Texas. There will be a shared meal in the Parish Hall at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception after the cemetery service. Yvonne Mary Kamel will be remembered as a loving and devoted sister, friend, and confidant. She was an inspiration to all who knew her and her gentle ways. She always had a good word and a glorious smile for everyone. She will always be remembered for her strong faith in God, and her devotion to her church, family, and friends. She will truly be missed by all, but will remain in our hearts always. The Family would like to extend their sincere thanks to Home Hospice Caregivers, the doctors and nurses as well as her very helpful neighbors who were so helpful to them during Yvonne’s last few months. You all were a special gift from God. Pallbearers are Paul Procell, Shane Hallmark, Jimmy Hallmark, Johnny Hallmark, Stephen Plumb, Tony Johnson, Mark Johnson, and Bryan Wells. Honorary pallbearers are Rodney Kamel, Ron Schumacher, and Mark Robertson.
