Donna Joyce Busby Reid

A memorial service honoring the life of Donna Joyce Busby Reid, 61, of Whitehouse, Texas, will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at Broadway Church of Christ in Tyler with close friend D. Shaun Stamps officiating. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. with memorial services following. A private burial will be held at Mixon Cemetery. Donna passed away on June 27, 2024, in her home in Whitehouse, Texas with her children holding her hands. She was born on November 22, 1962, in Tyler to the late Ronald Shelby Busby and Carolyn Louise Neal of Whitehouse, Texas. Though she came from humble beginnings and endured various hardships in her early life, Donna graduated from Whitehouse High School in 1981 and later earned her degree in nursing from Tyler Junior College in 1995 while raising two babies. She was an emergency room nurse for nearly 30 years and on-call for family members 24/7. Donna was a faithful Christian and a longtime member of Broadway Church of Christ. She was known for her love of travel, history, impressionist art, and America’s National Parks. She never missed an opportunity for adventure with her friends, children, and grandchildren. She visited her son and daughter-in-law at every military duty station—including two trips to Japan. She loved exploring far-off places like the Bahamas; Costa Rica; Surf City, NC; Carmel-by-the-Sea, CA; and Yellowstone and Yosemite National Parks. She took pride in learning and sharing the historical significance of each place. Of all her favorite places, she loved a trip to the coast to feel the ocean breeze most of all. Despite her cancer, she fought to make it to the beach with her family for one last time just the week prior to her death. Donna will be remembered for her empathy, reflected in her decades-long career as a nurse, her welcoming home—often made cozier for friends and family with HGTV-inspired updates—her most thoughtful gift giving, and her love for music—which will live on in her children and grandchildren. A strong, caring friend, an independent woman who built her life with God’s Grace despite the odds, and an incredible mother and grandmother, Donna will be dearly missed. Donna is survived by her children: son, Jordan Reid, and wife, Caylee, of Whitehouse; daughters: Whitney Reid, and fiancé, Stacia, of Georgetown, and Amanda Lollis and husband, Michael, of Whitehouse; her grandchildren: Colin Tarver, Elena Tarver, Amelia Lollis, Ava Lollis, and Arden Reid; her great-grandson: Grant Tarver; and her siblings: Diana Swinney and Danny “Bear” Busby.
