Gaylen Gage

April 20, 1947 - March 25, 2022

Charles “Gaylen” Gage went to be with our Lord and Savior on March 25, 2022. Memorial Services will be held on April 12, 2022 at 10:00am at Stewart Family Funeral Home in Tyler. Gaylen was born in Athens, TX on April 20, 1947 to Osie and Henry Gage. He attended grade school in Crossroads, TX. When he was just 18 years old he enlisted in the US Navy and served our country in the Vietnam War. When he returned from the war, he married and started a family. Gaylen also had a 40-year career at TRANE in Tyler where he had various roles and made may lifelong friends. He enjoyed fishing and was an avid HAM radio operator, many times serving in emergency management roles. Gaylen was also gifted in the area of technology; often repairing and rebuilding his friends and family’s computers in his workshop. He loved taking photos and capturing memories; always learning the most he could about the best cameras to do the job. In 1996 he met the love of his life, Ellen Andrews Smith. They enjoyed over 20 years of marriage before her sudden passing in 2019. Gaylen and Ellen made a sweet life together and enjoyed dancing, traveling, and camping for two decades. Gaylen was selfless with his time; always offering to help someone, cook a meal, or tackle a problem. Gaylen had many grandchildren and loved them all. There is no doubt that “Pawpaw” loved spoiling his grandchildren above all else. He was proud of each and every one and took the pictures to prove it! Gaylen was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents; his son, Michael Gage, and beloved wife, Ellen. He is survived by his sisters, Mary Ann Ward, Vicki Bairfield and Dixie Gage; multiple grandchildren and nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to all involved in Gaylen’s care the last two years. If desired, memorials can be made to the Andrews Center of Tyler, 2323 West Front St., Tyler, TX 75702 (www.andrewscenter.com).
