Grover C. Smith

May 6, 1936 - March 30, 2022

A private graveside service will be held for Grover C. Smith, 85, of Tyler, with Pastor Doug Anderson officiating under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home. A reception will be held on April 6, 2022 at 2:30 p.m. at Rose Heights Church Fellowship Hall in Tyler. Mr. Smith passed away Wednesday, March 30, 2022 in Tyler. He was born May 6, 1936 in Brooksville, MS to Grover C. Smith Sr. and Sudie Mae Menees Smith. After graduating High School, Mr. Smith joined the Army Reserves, and completed the United States Army Finance School in Minneapolis, MN while serving. He soon met the love of his life, Nancy Jacobs Smith. Grover & Nancy were married October 8, 1961, and recently celebrated 60 years of marriage. The Smiths were long time members of First Church of the Nazarene in Nacogdoches, TX. The Smiths considered Rose Heights Church in Tyler, TX, their current home Church, thanks to the Church’s online ministry. Mr. Smith had a long retail career spanning over 60 years, holding manager and buyer positions with McCrory’s, West Dept Stores, Gibson’s, and he retired in 2012 after spending 24 years with Baskin’s Department Stores, where he worked side by side with his family managing the Tyler location. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his father, Grover C. Smith, Sr and mother, Sudie Mae Menees Smith, sisters, Margaret Smith Blair and Martha Smith Cooper. Grover is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Nancy Jacobs Smith; daughters, Terri Smith Mason & husband, Jerlen of Tyler, Trecia Smith Johnson & husband, Lowell of Nacogdoches, and son, Grover (Tres) Smith & wife, Vicki of Tyler; along with his grandchildren, which he adored, Matthew Johnson, Morgan Johnson Lima & husband, Antonio, Andrew Johnson, Tanner Smith & Kayleigh (KK) Smith; and Cricket, the cat that was always by his side. Honorary Pallbearers are his grandchildren.
