Lee Tilford Carson

November 23, 1933 - May 27, 2022

Lee Tilford Carson, 88, of Flint, passed away on May 27, 2022. A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 17, 2022, 10 a.m. at Bullard First United Methodist Church, 204 Rather St., Bullard, with Rev. David Brasher officiating. There will be a visitation at the same location beginning at 9 a.m. Lee’s family will be present to welcome loved ones. Mr. Carson was born in 1933 in Indianapolis, Indiana. During his youth, he first developed his resourcefulness and love of the outdoors while working on the family farm in Mooresville, IN. His family moved to Garland, TX and he graduated in 1951 from Garland High School. He interrupted his college studies (returning to complete a bachelor’s degree 35 years later) to serve in the U.S. military in Korea. Before departing for overseas, Lee met the love of his life in Crystal Springs, Pennsylvania, and within three months married Velma Irene Fink, his loving wife of 68 years. An enthusiastic teacher, Lee pursued a lifetime career in vocational education, teaching for 25 years in the federal prison system in Seagoville, TX, and Tallahassee, FL, and for 15 years at Tyler High School (formerly John Tyler High School) and Tyler Legacy High School (formerly Robert E. Lee High School) and at Tyler Junior College. Lee’s faith and the church community were integral to his life. He delighted in taking on various roles as elder, choir member, lay leader, camp counselor, writer, and for 60+ years as Sunday school teacher. In retirement Lee enjoyed his ongoing mechanical, automotive, horticultural, and carpentry projects, as well as volunteering for 15 years at Christus Trinity Mother Frances hospital. However, he was most fond of spending time nurturing relationships with cherished friends and family. Survivors include his wife, Velma; two children, a son, Scott A. Carson and his wife, Denise of Whitehouse, a daughter, Perian Carson of New York City; two granddaughters, Haley Metzner and Megan Carson; a sister, Ann Kennemer of Burleson; a great-grandson, and numerous brothers-and sisters-in law, nieces, nephews, and treasured friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Millard and Esther Tilford Carson, and two siblings, David Carson and Doryce Stelling. An inurnment will follow the memorial service at Bullard Memorial Cemetery, 808 S. Houston St, Bullard under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bullard First United Methodist Church, (www.bullardfumc.org), 204 Rather St., Bullard, TX 75757.
