Lynch, 93, passed away peacefully Thursday, August 13, 2020, at her home in Allen, TX. She was born on October 12, 1926 in Gretna, VA to Jacob Berger and Effie Reynolds Berger. Nancy grew up on a family farm without electricity or indoor plumbing at the time of the Great Depression. She trusted Jesus Christ as her Savior as a child and grew in her faith through Bible study, church fellowship, and service her entire life. She grew up learning the joy of simple things, working hard, caring for others and most of all being a content person. Nancy attended the University of Mary Washington and later worked in the U.S. Patent Office as secretary to the Personnel Manager. She met the love of her life George C. Lynch when he returned from the Navy after WWII. George sold his car to buy her engagement ring. He knew what a “jewel” he had found. Nancy and George had three children while in Dallas. George’s job took the family to Denver and Chicago. After her grown children married, Nancy would delightfully say, “I gave birth to three, but six call me Mom.” A devoted wife and mother, she added the honor of being “Grammy” to three grandchildren -- a role she excelled at and cherished. After retiring to the Tyler area, Nancy and George enjoyed endearing friendships in their community and church, where they taught Kindergarten Sunday School at FBC Tyler. After 58 years of marriage and George’s passing, she moved to Allen, TX to be closer to her children. She began volunteering at the Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Allen visiting patients until she was 91 years old. She said her goal was to calm, cheer, and comfort them. Nancy was a member of First Baptist Church McKinney where she enjoyed serving as a greeter to make all feel welcome and treasured the relationships she made there. Nancy was a determined, clever, beautiful, hard-working, caring, loving, patient, wise, gentle, and positive person. She was known as “a sweet classy lady.” She touched those who were in her life by just being herself. Nancy was a role model of a life well lived. Her sweet loving spirit will be greatly missed. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, sister, and husband. She is survived by her loving family including Sara and Tom Caldwell, Beth, Monte & Ryan Hall, and George, Laurel, Grace, & Sam Lynch; and 12 beloved nieces and nephews. Nancy and the family were so grateful for the extraordinary loving care provided by Jeannetta Thompson & her Senior Shield team, and the Alexis Estates managers & beloved community. You loved our Mom well. If desired, memorials may be made to First McKinney Baptist Church -- COVID 19 Response Fund or Texas Health Resources Foundation -- designated to Allen Hospital 365 Fund.
