Memorial services for Reverend Othell LaFerney, 83, of Gilmer will be held on Saturday, December 5, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Faith Baptist Church in Gilmer with Rev. Keith Weaver and Rev. Tommy Harden officiating. Inurnment will be at Friendship Cemetery in Gladewater at a later date. Rev. Othell LaFerney passed away Sunday, November 29, 2020 in Tyler. He was born August 3, 1937 in Gregg County to Luther LaFerney and Ethel Nowlan. Rev. LaFerney graduated from East Texas Baptist College with a BA in Theology. He was the former pastor of Faith Baptist Church in Gilmer, where he retired in December 2018. Rev. LaFerney faithfully pastored various churches in East Texas for 51 years. Rev. LaFerney served our nation in the Navy as a chaplain’s aid assigned to the USS Yorktown from January 1958 until January 1962. Rev. LaFerney was preceded in death by his father, Luther LaFerney; mother, Ethel Nowlan LaFerney; most beloved and faithful wife, Zeda Fern LaFerney, who served alongside of him for 51 years; daughter, Sonya Nolan; sisters, Darlene, Eva Nell, Ouita, Ima Jean, Letha and Bonnie; two brothers, Junior and Leonard. He is survived by his second wife of 12 years, Shelia Wilson LaFerney; and his loving family, including daughters, Denise LaFerney Weaver and husband Keith of Gilmer and Tammy LaFerney Harden and husband Tommy of Tyler; son, Kevin LaFerney of Amarillo; grandchildren, Michael Golden, Ashley Golden, Trista Harden Garner, Taylor Harden Creedon, Stephen Nolan, Kristen Nolan, Kamylle LaFerney Amburgey, Kelsey LaFerney Crain, Cheyenne LaFerney and Cassie LaFerney; and 11 great-grandchildren.
