Services for Robert A. Grant, Sr., 74, of Flint will be held on Monday, October 13, 2008 at 1:00 PM at Lanes Chapel United Methodist Church with Bro. Lou Thomas and Bro. Jason Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at Cathedral in the Pines Cemetery under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home. A loving and dedicated husband and father, Mr. Grant arrived in Heaven October 9, 2008. Robert Grant was born on February 18, 1934 in Michigan City, Indiana to the late Farrell Grant and Melba E. Woolever. He was retired from the Michigan City, Indiana Water Department, Shell Oil Company, JC Penney Company and Bridgestone/Firestone Inc. His love after retiring was volunteering at Trinity Mother Francis Hospital for 15 years. He was a generous and wonderful example for his family and was strengthened through the years by his faith. He loved coaching sports with his sons and grandsons. He was an avid reader, especially of Louis Lamour westerns, and he loved country music. Robert and the love of his life, Esther, square danced for over fifty years and traveled as much as possible. He was active in the Optimist Club and was named Optimist of the Year in 1985. He was also a Mason, a member of the Bullard Lodge, the Shriners Club and the Scottish Rite. In addition to his parents, Mr. Grant was preceded in death by a infant son, Daniel Timothy Grant. He is survived by a loving family including his wife of 57 years, Esther Grant; four sons and daughters-in-law, Greg and Diana Grant of Houston, Garry and Rose Grant of Tyler, Douglas and Cynthia Grant of Shreveport, Louisiana, and Robert and Melonye Grant of Tyler; grandchildren, Shane Grant, Sarah Grant, Brandon Grant, Lisa Grant, Ron Grant, Hannah Elizabeth Grant, Cheryl Grant, Shell Grant, Robert Grant, Steven Grant and wife Michele, Jennifer Hinton and husband Chris, Jeremy Grant, Adam Grant, and Daniel Grant; sisters, Dolores Richardson, Karen Carter, Sandra Schwiezer and husband Robert, and Sherry Benton and husband Robert; brother Paul Grant and wife Shirley; uncle William E. Woolever; and eight great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Shane Grant, Jeremy Stone, Brandon Allan Grant, Shell Humphrey, Robert Humphrey, Adam Stone, Ron Allan Grant, Daniel Robert Grant, and Steven Stacy Grant. Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, October 12 from 2:00-5:00 PM at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway in Tyler. Memorials in honor of Robert Grant may be made to Lanes Chapel United Methodist Church Building Fund, 15475 FM 2493, Tyler, Texas 75703.
