Ann Davis Miller

Memorial services for Ann Davis Miller, 82, of Tyler, will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at Marvin United Methodist Church with Rev. Gerry Giles and Dr. Doug Baker officiating. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Palestine City Cemetery in Palestine under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home. Ann passed away Wednesday, February 4, 2015 in Tyler. Ann was born February 11, 1932, in Palestine to Strode V. and Lola Wilkinson Davis. She graduated from Palestine High School and attended Texas Christian University and The University of Texas in Austin. While her husband Jim was in dental school, Ann took time off from her education and worked as a Claims Supervisor for Allstate Insurance and raised her family. Ann later went on to complete her education at Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches where she earned her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees. She was an art instructor at Tyler Junior College for eighteen years. Ann was a member of the Smith County Dental Auxiliary and the Salvation Army Auxiliary. She was a member of Marvin United Methodist since 1962 where she and her husband Jim attended the Pairs and Parents Sunday School class. She was active with the Missions Team of Marvin United Methodist Church, attending several mission trips, and was also active with the Wonderful Wednesday program of St. Paul Children’s Foundation. Ann enjoyed painting, sculpture, reading, travel, and especially mission projects and art projects. She loved spending time with family and said her fondest memories are the births of her two sons. Her parents and sisters, Dorothy Manley, June Freeman and Jean Dickson preceded in death. She is survived by her loving family including her husband, Dr. James G. Miller; sons Jeffry C. Miller and wife, Judy; James G. Miller, Jr. and Susan Manning; grandchildren, Erin Miller, Blake Miller, Evan Manning, Aubrey Miller, Larkin Manning and Alanis Miller, all of Tyler; brother, Andrew J. Davis of Palestine; sister-in-law, Mary Catherine McCants and husband, Jack of Houston; and beloved cousins, nieces and nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be the Marvin Menders Mission Team, Pairs and Parents Sunday School Class and St. Paul Children’s Foundation Volunteers. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, February 6, 2015, at Stewart Family Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Marvin Missions and Menders, 300 W.
