Betty Sue Hargett Norris

It is with the utmost sadness that we announce the passing of Betty Sue Hargett Norris at the age of 88 years young. Her prayers were answered June 19, 2026, when Jesus ushered her into Heaven where she rejoined her husband of almost 70 years, Bill, and other family and friends that have gone before her. Born in Smith County on December 13, 1937, she was the only child of Hody and Erma Hargett. Her life was one funny story after another and no one could tell them like she could. Betty was the picture of a servant’s heart. She dearly loved her church and spent many years helping with children and the youth. For the last few years, she taught her Sunday School class off and on. She served on her church’s Bereavement Committee for 30 years and volunteered at the Salvation Army for many years. She always looked for ways to help. She believed most things could be cured with a hug, a laugh, or a meal, and she was great at supplying each of them. Betty was extremely proud of her 50 year career with Whitehouse ISD. She began as a classroom aide before moving into the role of copy lady and then ending as a substitute. She loved camping, cooking, reading, watching game shows, and eating popcorn. But what she loved most of all was spending time with family and friends. Her greatest pride and joy was her family. Blessed to be born, her children were her son, Scott and her daughter, Susan Elise. She immediately loved Scott’s wife Luann and Susan’s husband Greg Jenkins. Her happiness compounded with the addition of each grandchild and great-grandchild. Honored to be in that group are Scott and Luann’s children, Josh and his wife Farida and their daughter Lilly; and daughter Sara Brown and her children Matthew and Emery; Susan and Greg’s sons Justin and his wife Carissa and their children Harper and Jett; and Parker and his wife Sarah and their son Jack. She is survived by sisters-in-law, Leita and husband Jerry Eubanks and Linda Abna and cousins, Kent and Suzy Hensley and Harold Hensley as well as many nieces and nephews. Betty was fortunate to have too many friends to count including her Joy Sunday School classmates and her wonderful Taco Tuesday companions. These friends made every happy event twice as joyful and every unhappy one half as sad. She will forever be in our hearts and will be in our minds every time we catch a glimpse of 1970s luggage, receive a greeting card in the mail, or eat a big piece of chocolate Texas Sheet Cake. Services will be held on Friday, June 26, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Whitehouse with Rev. Tim Brown officiating. Interment will follow in Whitehouse Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at Stewart Family Funeral Home in Tyler. Pallbearers are Josh Norris, Justin Jenkins, Parker Jenkins, Matthew Brown, Jimmy Eubanks, and Arnold Bernardino. If desired, memorials may be made to Hospice of East Texas, First Baptist Church Joy Sunday School class or the ASPCA.
