Danny Joe "Dan" Freeman

Services for Danny Joe Freeman, 72, of Tyler will be held on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Sands Springs Baptist Church, 3208 County Road 2330, in Mineola with Brother Jim Parker and Brother David Crain officiating. Burial will follow at Pilgrim Rest #2 Cemetery in Golden under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home. Dan passed away at Christus Trinity Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler, Texas on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, after a short but brave fight with Hodgkins Lymphoma. Dan was born on May 10, 1952, in Snyder, Texas to Horace Coleman Freeman and Wanda June (Snowden) Freeman. He graduated from Odessa High School in 1970 where he was a proud member of the Broncos Marching band and could often be seen riding to school on his bicycle with his tuba around his neck. He married his high school sweetheart Kathy Jo (Gandy) Freeman on July 3, 1970. Dan accepted the Lord as his Savior in 1971 and attended Calvary Baptist Church in Odessa. After completing Welding Trade School at Midland Community College, he began his own business, Dan’s Welding and Fabrication. In 1992 he and his wife moved their family of four to East Texas. It was while in East Texas he coupled his experience in the welding and trucking industry to begin a Transportation Company, (D&K Transportation) that he and Kathy built from the ground up and grew to success over the next 20 years, retiring in 2018. Dan was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Kenneth Lee Freeman. He is survived by his loving family including his wife of fifty-four years, Kathy Jo (Gandy) Freeman; children, Danna Jo (Freeman) Walden and husband Eric II, Kathryn Jo (Freeman) Pratt and husband Matthew; grandchildren, Eric “Tripp” Walden III, Hadley Grace Walden, Sophia Anne Pratt, and Olivia Kate Pratt. Pallbearers are Eric Walden, II, Matthew Pratt, Eric “Tripp” Walden, III, Richard Jones, Gordon Hamessley, and Micah Walden. Honorary pallbearers are Ronald Smelly, C.A. Popejoy, and Greg Howard. Visitation is scheduled from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Monday, May 20, 2024, at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway in Tyler.
