Elenor Koch

Elenor Virginia Schelling Koch entered into rest on May 24, 2014 at Tyler, Texas. She was born to Kurt and Elise Schelling on July 1, 1920 in Nordheim, DeWitt County, Texas. Elenor was baptized in infancy by the late Rev. Klugen and was later confirmed by the late T. J. Roth in Nordheim. She was a Sunday school teacher for many years. Elenor attended school in Nordheim and graduated with the class of 1938. After graduation she became interested in nursing and decided this would be her career. After working for several years in a hospital in Floresville, she decided to enter nurses training in 1942. She did so at the M&S Hospital (now Baptist) in San Antonio, Texas. Due to a high scholastic average and satisfactory performance, Elenor was granted a leave of absence to pursue special training at John Sealy in Galveston, Texas. She graduated as a registered nurse after having passed the State Board in 1945. She had also enlisted in the Nurse’s Cadet Choir. On March 2, 1947, Elenor married Herman Koch of Moulton, Texas. They continued to make Floresville their home and had two sons. Elenor retired after Herman’s death in 1985. Later she moved to San Antonio and lived with or close to Barry and his family. She enjoyed family, cooking, sewing and camping. Elenor was a member at First Lutheran Church in Floresville, Texas, for many years and after moving to Tyler was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Tyler, Texas. Elenor passed away on May 24, 2014 at Reunion Plaza in Tyler, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Kurt and Elise Schelling; her husband, Herman Koch; and her sisters, Irene and Evelyn Schelling. Survivors include sons, Barry Keith Koch and wife Helen, Craig Neal Koch and wife Anne; grandchildren Spencer, Sean, Danielle, Allison, and Mallory Koch of Tyler, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews. A visitation and prayer service will be held at Stewart Family Funeral Home in Tyler, Texas at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 with Dr. Mark Braaten officiating. Visitation at Vinyard Funeral Home, Floresville, Texas will begin at 10:00 AM on Friday, May 30, 2014 with the service following at 11:00 AM with Pastor John Conrad officiating. Interment will be at Floresville City Cemetery, Floresville, Texas immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church, 4900 Kinsey Drive, Tyler, TX 75703.
