Evelyn Frances Bochow

Services for Evelyn Frances Cheatham Bochow, 97, of Tyler will be held on Sunday, August 16, 2026. A private graveside service will take place at Rose Hill Cemetery, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. at First Christian Church with Dr. Chris Pulliam officiating. Visitation will be held Saturday, August 15, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Stewart Family Funeral Home. Mrs. Bochow passed away peacefully on July 17, 2026, after a rewarding and well-lived life. She was blessed with many lifelong friends and was known for her warmth, kindness, and gracious spirit. Evelyn was born on August 2, 1928, in Cuero, Texas, the youngest child of Thomas and Katie Cheatham. Her mother was a teacher, rancher, and lifelong learner. Her father was an attorney, rancher, and longtime member of the Texas Legislature. After graduating from Cuero High School, Evelyn followed in the footsteps of her parents and siblings to The University of Texas at Austin. At just 16 years old, she began her college education, earning a Bachelor of Business Administration and later a Master of Business Administration. A lifelong learner, she continued taking courses in music, agriculture, business law, and finance at The University of Texas at Tyler and Tyler Junior College. Evelyn taught high school in New Braunfels and Corpus Christi, Texas. While living in Corpus Christi in 1953, she met the love of her life, Carl E. Bochow, at a Sunday school party. They were married on August 18, 1957, and shared nearly 60 wonderful years together. Their life together was filled with adventure, friendship, and service. They made their home in Tyler, Texas, New Jersey, and Angel Fire, New Mexico, enjoying golf, snow skiing, scuba diving, family time at Lake Tyler, and travel throughout the world with a close group of Tyler friends. Evelyn especially treasured the friendships she formed with the wives of Carl's coworkers at Howe-Baker Engineers, which he joined in 1960. During his 30-year career at Howe-Baker, they worked as a team to graciously host employees and clients from around the world. Evelyn also owned and managed a South Texas ranch following the deaths of her parents. Throughout her years in Tyler, Evelyn was active in numerous civic and charitable organizations, including the Daughters of the American Revolution, Women's Symphony League 50 year Golden Keynote member, Delta Kappa Gamma, Tyler Women's Forum, the American Association of University Women (AAUW), and Life Member of the Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary of UT Austin. Evelyn and Carl were devoted members of First Christian Church in Tyler, where Evelyn remained an active member for 66 years. Following Carl's retirement, they also helped establish the United Church of Angel Fire in Angel Fire, New Mexico. Whether through Carl's business career or their retirement years, they were blessed with cherished friendships that spanned the globe. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Carl E. Bochow Sr.; her brother, Wiley Cheatham; and her sister, Mary Polinard. She is survived by her loving family: son, Carl E. Bochow Jr. and wife, Karen, and their children, Capt. Clayton Bochow and Kathleen; son, Dr. Thomas Bochow and wife, Debra, and their children, Samuel and Andrew; and son Robert Bochow and wife, Celeste, and their children, Kyle, Maegan, and Emily. She is also survived by her special nephew, Wiley "Scooter" Cheatham, and her special niece, Catherine Rawdon and a number of other nieces, nephews and their children. Pallbearers will be Evelyn's seven grandchildren: Clayton, Kyle, Kathleen, Maegan, Emily, Samuel, and Andrew. They were her greatest joy. Honorary pallbearers will be her nephew, Scooter Cheatham, and her niece, Catherine Rawdon. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff of The Hamptons and the caregivers of Home-Aid Caregivers and Kindful Health in Tyler for their compassionate care and support. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Christian Church of Tyler or United Church of Angel Fire.
