Mass of Christian Burial for Evelyn Saleh, 101 of Tyler will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, February 28, 2008 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception with Monsignor Joe Strickland officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Tyler under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home. We celebrate the life and mourn the loss of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, relative, and friend whom passed away Monday, February 25, 2008. She was born in Tyler to the late Simon and Matilda Saleh. She was also predeceased by her husband, Charles Saleh; sisters, Stella Saleh, Josephine George, and Matilda Pierce; brothers, Fred Saleh, George Saleh, Philip Saleh, and J.J. "Snooky" Saleh. Survivors include her daughter, Charlene Martel and husband Joseph; 3 grandchildren, Joe and his wife Daphne Martel, Denise Martel Rice and Michael and his wife Jyl Martel; a sister, Rose Marie Pilcher; 6 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Evelyn Saleh has been a lifelong member of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. She was also a member of the Altar Society and a charter member of the Cedars of Lebanon. She joined the Court Mary A. Drake Catholic Daughters of America in 1938 and was the last surviving charter member. Before her retirement, she worked as an office manager for Simon Wholesale Company, owned by her father. She loved to write, support numerous missions throughout the world, garden at home with special emphasis on her gorgeous azaleas and blue bonnets. She had an unselfish heart in helping the poor and always finding good in everyone. She will be missed; however, she rests in eternal happiness with God whom she always put first in her life of faith, hope and charity. Pallbearers will be Brad Bell, Johnny Johnson, Austin Martel, Joseph Martel, Jr., Stephen Pilcher, John T. Saleh, Edmond Schaded, and Harry Loftis. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Ron Daniels, Dr. Richard George, Wesley Lindsey, Mark Manes, Joseph Murad, Col. William Pilcher, Jr., and Paul Procell.
