Fred A. Wernette

Fred A. Wernette went to be with the Lord Saturday, November 5, 2016 in Tyler, Texas with his family at his side. Fred was born October 11, 1920 in El Paso, Texas to the late Fred and Bertha Wernette. Fred graduated from Paschal High School in Fort Worth, Texas in 1938 and attended North Texas Agricultural College in Arlington, Texas in 1941. He was a veteran of World War II and served in General Patton’s Army. He was employed by IBM for 50 years, retiring as a systems engineer. He was a charter member of Green Acres Baptist Church where he served in many capacities. Fred was devoted to the church and its ministries. He leaves a strong Christian legacy to his friends and all who knew him. He was an avid hunter and bowler. He was inducted into the Tyler USBC BA Hall of Fame in 2009. He also volunteered for Meals on Wheels. Fred was married for 63 years to his high school sweetheart Doris Leath. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his brother, Presley Wernette; and his sister, Lois Newberry. He is survived by his loving family including his children, Suzanne (Tommy) Tomlin of Chandler, Roger (Suzie) Wernette of Houston, and Julie Sims of Denton;his grandchildren, Sheri Terranova, Mark (Heather) Terranova, Ryan Wernette, Chris Wernette, Chad Sims, and Haley Sims; great-grandchildren, Max Terranova and Sydney Terranova; his sister, JoAnn King of Corpus Christi; and many nieces and nephews and countless friends. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren. A celebration of his life will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, November 8, 2016 at Green Acres Baptist Church Chapel with Dr. David Dykes and Rev. Paul Powell officiating. Private family burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Tyler under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home. Visitation is scheduled from 5:00 - 7:00 PM on Monday, November 7, 2016 at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway, in Tyler.
