Harold Neal Hogue Sr.

Harold Neal Hogue was born December 17, 1934, in Houston, Texas to John Neal Hogue and Linnie Fulton Hogue and passed from this life on July 18, 2025, at the age of 90. He graduated from Galena Park High School and served in the U.S. Army. He worked at Sinclair Refinery for 10 years and then began his 40+ years career as a dental lab technician, owning dental labs in Houston, Colorado Springs, and finally Tyler. Many people chew and look better with the crowns and bridgework he so skillfully crafted. He was talented in many ways. His love of photography began at an early age and he recalled carrying large bags of film and flashcubes when shooting a wedding back in the days before digital cameras. Harold and Sheryl first met in a photography class at TJC and their many travels produced some stunning pictures. He loved woodworking and thoroughly enjoyed spending time in his shop where he built many pieces of furniture that family still enjoy today. His handiwork can be seen in several projects he created for Bethel Baptist Church where he was actively involved for 30 years. Harold enjoyed shooting and passed that love down to children and grandchildren. Many rounds have been fired at targets from the back deck of their house. He loved to work with his hands and had the ability to fix and repair most anything. He was a problem solver, and a patient teacher, more than willing to pass along any skills he had acquired. He loved gospel music, singing in a quartet in high school and adding his voice to the church choir for many years. He truly enjoyed the exceptionally talented quartets at Bethel. Most of all, Harold was a good man, steady as a rock. He was kind, dependable, generous, and a hard worker, an advisor, encourager, and often the voice of reason. He was an example of a Godly man. He hated being the center of attention and was satisfied to work quietly behind the scenes. He was proceeded in death by his father J.N. Hogue, mother Linnie Hogue, and brother Donald Ray Hogue as well as Sally Breen, mother of his children. He is survived by loving wife Sheryl; children Rachel Scholz, husband Kenneth, Melinda (Mindy) Baldauf, husband Patrick and Neal Hogue; grandchildren Amber Kennedy, April Allphin, husband Daryl, Danielle Squyres, husband David, Preston Stark, wife Taryn, Anya Arocha, husband Linard and Dalton Baldauf; great-grandchildren Curtis, Connor, Callie, Harleigh, Oakleigh, Marlene; and great-great-grandson Alaric. Pallbearers are Preston Stark, Daryl Allphin, David Squyres, Dalton Baldauf, Connor Allphin, and Jerry Eastman. Honorary pallbearers are Patrick Baldauf and Kenny Scholz. Services for Harold will be held on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Bethel Baptist Church-Chapel Hill with Dr. Gil Lain officiating. Interment will follow in Williams Cemetery in Chapel Hill under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home.
