Jewell Danbom

Jewell Herring Danbom died on Wednesday, March 3rd in Houston, TX. She was born in Tyler, TX on April 19, 1912, the daughter of Anna Lucille Herring and Robert Herring. During her youth, she lived in both Tyler and Mt. Sylvan, TX and graduated from Tyler High School in 1932. After graduation, she attended Tyler Commercial College. During this time, she met Marion Everett (Dan) Danbom, and they were married on December 23, 1933. Jewell and Dan had two children, Michael and Stephen. Jewell was a devoted mother to her two boys. During their 60 years together, Jewell and Dan traveled extensively throughout the United States. They frequently went to Nebraska to visit family and often vacationed in the mountains of Colorado before returning to Texas. They also visited several foreign countries including Mexico, France, Germany, and Switzerland. Jewell was content to be the companion to Dan and adopted his hobbies including hunting in the Texas Hill Country, boating on Lake Tyler, and involvement in Ham Radio social activities. She was a member of Marvin United Methodist Church in Tyler. Jewell was justifiably very proud of her driving record. Beginning with the many days of living on a farm in Mt. Sylvan and driving each day to Tyler High School, and continuing throughout her life, she was proud to say that she never had an automobile accident. She continued to drive in Tyler until 2004 when she moved from Tyler to Houston. Throughout her life, her family was her focus. She is survived by her sons Michael Everett Danbom and his wife Pam and Stephen Herring Danbom and his wife Susan both of Houston, as well as four grandchildren, Amy Jones of Mesquite, Erin Burkett of Arlington, Shannon Gammon of Lee’s Summit, MO, and Scott Danbom of Denton. She also has five great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Marion. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, March 4, 2010 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Hwy, Tyler, Texas 75703. She will be buried in Rose Hill Cemetery in Tyler, TX. Graveside services will be at 11 AM on Friday, March 5th. In lieu of flowers, donations can be given to Compassionate Care Hospice of Houston.
