Katherine "Kay" Foltz Peters

Katherine “Kay” Foltz Peters comes home to Tyler to be laid to rest near her Mother Katherine and Father George Foltz. Graveside services are scheduled for Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at 10:00 AM at Rose Hill Cemetery with Rev. Gerry Giles officiating under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home. Kay Foltz Peters passed away on August 1, 2017 with her family by her bedside. Kay is predeceased by her Mother Katherine O. Foltz and her Father George A. Foltz and her husband Lloyd Peters of CA to whom she was married for 42 years. Kay was born in Tyler and grew up there until she left to attend Tyler Junior College, where she was an Apache Bell, and then studied at SMU, where she was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority and graduated with a teaching degree. Kay was also a synchronized swimmer. Kay was awarded the Woodrow Wilson Scholarship and attended Stanford University, where she was the President of the Stanford Club. Kay also studied in France which she spoke of often and so enjoyed and was pleased to have had the experience. Kay taught high school French in Los Altos, CA. After she retired from teaching Kay was a travel agent for Estill Travel in Los Altos. Kay was perfectly suited for this second career as she and her husband Lloyd traveled the world together. Kay’s clients knew they were in good hands as, an experienced world traveler herself, she had firsthand knowledge of the excellent hotels and restaurants, the best cruise itineraries and schedules which she arranged with accuracy and dedication. Kay met the love of her life when she was attending Stanford University, Lloyd Peters. After marriage they made their home in Los Altos, CA, where they remained until Lloyd’s death. Kay loved her rose garden and sharing her home and travel with many good friends. Kay and Lloyd traveled the world and enjoyed fine wines, outstanding food and the love of historical places, diverse cultures, art and adventure while developing lifelong friendships with many along the way. Upon her husband Lloyd’s death, Kay moved to Texas and lived in Bacliff Texas with her cousin Ralph Foltz and his wife Teresa at their home Pelican Run on the Bay. Kay spent her days working her puzzles, lunching at some of the finest Houston and Galveston restaurants, reading her books and watching the ships go by in Galveston Bay which she loved and stated, “It is so peaceful and beautiful. Lloyd would be pleased.” Kay was cared for by three outstanding care givers who had been with her since her arrival in Houston; Addie, Regina and Barbara to whom she was grateful. Kay will be missed by many good friends who shared travel, love of books and great times and a glass of fine wine with her. Kay stayed in touch with everyone each Christmas sending out a Christmas letter and she never forgot a birthday. Kay will be missed and was loved by many. Kay was courageous and she was a true Tyler rose with an international flare.
