Services for Saundra Kay Mounce Courtney, 72, of Tyler, TX will be held on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, 10:00 a.m. at Broadway Church of Christ with Jim Laws and Phil Hancock officiating. David Osteen will lead singing. A burial will follow at the Cathedral in the Pines Cemetery in Tyler under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home. Mrs. Courtney passed away Wednesday, October 30, 2024, in Tyler. She was born October 10, 1952, in St. Louis MO to James Frank Mounce and Margie Woodland Mounce. Kay was a member of Broadway Church of Christ. She graduated Salutatorian of her class at Sonora High School in 1971. She was editor of the school newspaper, yearbook staff member, and district champion in oratory, science, and geometry. She held the position of Teaching Assistant with Aldine Independent School District. Kay was very active in PTA as local president and served as a member in various statewide offices. She served as a Bible school teacher in several churches throughout her life. She was a loving wife, devoted mother, and grandmother (better known as Mimi). She spent 53 loving years with her husband. She was a team mom, room mom, and very dedicated to her children and grandchildren in all of their activities. She never missed a game, a play, a band concert, or an award. Kay was ever present, selfless, and bright, even when struggling with her health. Her family was her greatest joy. Kay was preceded in death by her father, Frank Mounce, mother, Margie Mounce, and brother, Randy Mounce. She is survived by her loving family, including her husband, Jerry L. Courtney, of Tyler; daughter, Melissa Coffey and her husband Tim, of Huntsville; son, Jerry A. Courtney and wife Kristen of Tyler; brothers, Tommy Mounce of Tomball, Robert Mounce of Chapel Hill, and Doug Mounce of Junction; five grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers include Tommy Mounce, Robert Mounce, Calvi Courtney, Doug Hager, Mike Thurman, Dylan Hurte, and honorary pallbearer, Doug Mounce. Visitation is scheduled from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Monday, November 4, 2024, at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway, in Tyler.
