Lee Knight

Services for Lee Roger Knight, 80, of Tyler, will be held on Monday, June 13, 2011, at 1:00 PM at West Erwin Church of Christ with Dr. Jay Lockhart and nephew, Jay Knight officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Tyler under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home. Dr. Knight passed away Thursday, June 9, 2011 in Tyler. He was born on July 19, 1930 in Malvern, Arkansas to Felix Daniel, Sr. and Nora Ethel Thompson Knight. He graduated from Little Rock Central High School and went on to attend Abilene Christian College and Baylor College of Medicine, where he graduated in 1955. He completed residencies in Pathology and Surgery at the University of Arkansas. Dr. Knight served his country as a Major in the United States Army Medical Corp. He served on the Governing Board of Trustees at Abilene Christian University for 31 years and continued serving on the Abilene Christian University Council until his death. He also served on the President’s Development Council of Harding University and served as a Deacon and Elder of the West Erwin Church of Christ. Dr. Knight served as the team physician for John Tyler High School for 22 years and was also team physician for Tyler Junior College. Dr. Knight also held memberships in the Smith County Medical Society, Texas Medical Association and the American Medical Association. In addition, Dr. Knight was a member of the Society of Abdominal Surgeons. In addition to his parents, Dr. Knight was preceded in death by two brothers; Felix Daniel Knight, Jr. and twin, James Ronald Knight. He is survived by his loving family including wife, Janeal Rutledge Knight; sons: Paul Knight and wife Janice and Grant Knight and wife Leanne; daughters: Lee North and husband Mark and Amy Lowery and husband Chris; grandchildren: Erin Knight, Taylor Knight, Jennifer Stroupe and husband Bobby, Jeffrey Knight and wife Kelli, Jonathan Knight, Courtney Atwood and husband Taylor, Sydney North, Mackenzie North, Caroline Lowery, Maclaine Lowery, and Harper Lowery; brothers: Lewis Thompson Knight and William Dean Knight. Pallbearers will be Jeffrey Knight, Jonathan Knight, Taylor Knight, Bobby Stroupe, Taylor Atwood, Trey Knight and David Billingsley. Visitation is scheduled from 4:00 to 6:00 PM on Sunday, June 12, 2011 at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway, in Tyler. We would like to thank the fantastic nurses of Trinity Mother Frances Cardiac ICU; Lorraine, Katie, Jennifer, Melissa and Brandon. Roger Knight was a loving husband, beloved father, adoring grandfather, treasured brother and uncle, trusted physician, selfless and faithful friend to countless people.
