Orin Harris

Services for Orin Andrew Harris, 74, of Tyler, will be held on Sunday, November 15, 2009 at 2:30 PM at Stewart Family Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Vernis Stanaland, pastor of the Tyler Primitive Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Cathedral in the Pines Cemetery in Tyler under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home. Mr. Harris passed away, Friday, November 13, 2009 in Tyler. He was born April 19, 1935 in Tulsa, OK to Carl Luther and Ethel Ramsey Harris. Mr. Harris graduated from Union High School and then attended Tulsa University. He served 5 years in the US Army spending some of that time in Kyusu, Japan. Orin and his wife Shirley, of 30 years, moved to Tyler in 1981 where they began their business, Smith County Builders, Inc. They continued to build homes in the Tyler area for 27 years. Orin was past president of the Tyler Area Builders Association and continued to be a loyal and active member as long as his health permitted. Orin lost his hard fought battle with cancer and will be deeply missed. It will be easy to remember his genuine caring spirit and his forever smiles. Mr. Harris was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Oscar and Carl Jr. Harris; sister Geraldine Nill and son Greg Hall. In addition to his loving wife, Orin is survived by his loving family including; sons, Kevin and wife Beth of Missouri City, and Marc and wife Peggy of Murfreesboro, TN; daughters, Vicki Eaker of Houston, and Lisa Magee and husband Kelley of Amarillo; 5 granddaughters, Stephanie Magee, Haley, Whitney, and Emily Harris; and 2 grandsons, Jacob Harris and Ethan Eaker. Pallbearers will be Bob Garrett, Tom Utz, Mark Cauthen, Robert York, Bill Newton, Todd Buchanan, Moh Rezaei, and Jesse Rider. Visitation is scheduled from 4:00 to 6:00 PM, Saturday, November 14, 2009 at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Hwy, Tyler, Texas 75703.
