Patsy Norman

Services for Patsy Slayter Norman, 80, of Tyler, will be held on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. at Stewart Family Funeral Home with Pastor Sam DeVille officiating. Burial will follow at Cathedral in the Pines Cemetery in Tyler under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home. Mrs. Norman passed away Saturday, July 28, 2012 at The Hospice of East Texas. She was born August 25, 1931 in Gainesville, TX. to S.M. and Bertha Rose Kelley. Patsy was a member of Flint Baptist Church. She graduated from Gainesville High School in 1948 and St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing in Fort Worth in 1953as a Registered Nurse. Patsy was an O.R. nurse for Dolly Vincent Hospital in San Benito for fifteen years and the third floor Supervisor at Glenwood Hospital for twelve years, retiring in 1979. Patsy loved reading her Bible, shopping, gospel and country western music, and her dachshund, “Rocky”. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by first husband Joe Slayter and husband Chester A. Norman; and infant daughter Carolyn Jean Slayter, in 1960. She is survived by her loving family including daughters, Elizabeth Smith and husband Don of Tyler; Pamela Jones of McKinney; sons, Steve Slayter and wife Linda, and David Slayter, both of Bullard; step-daughter Glenda Schultz and husband Scott of Whitewright; grandchildren, Joshua Rankins of Tyler, Lucy Jones of Frisco, Elliott Slayter and Madison Slayter both of Bullard; sisters Jimmie Maurice Comer of Campti, La., Betty Lois Gronhovd and husband Marvin of Nekoma, North Dakota; grandchildren, Samantha, Phillip, and Stephanie Schultz of Whitewright; great-granddaughter, Phoenix Rankins of Katy and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Joshua Rankins, Elliott Slayter, Don Smith, Ricky Savage, Mike Early and Clinton Gronhovd. Honorary pallbearers will be Marvin Gronhovd and Howard Bamburg. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. S. J. Vukelja and the staff of Texas Oncology. Visitation is scheduled from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Monday, July 30, 2012 at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway, in Tyler.
