Stephen Ray Boyd

Services for Stephen Ray Boyd, 60, of Tyler, will be held on Wednesday, September 10, 2014, at 2:30 PM, at Westwood Baptist Church with Rev. Ron Moore and Rev. Tom Crawford officiating. Burial will follow at Cathedral in the Pines in Tyler under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home. Mr. Boyd passed away Saturday, September 6, 2014, in Tyler after a long battle with cancer. He was born November 3, 1953 in Tyler to Bobby Ray and Mildred Ann Rayford Boyd. He was a 1972 graduate of Robert E. Lee High School and attended Tyler Junior College. Steve began working at Dunn Transmissions in Tyler at the age of 16 and remained employed there 40-plus years until his health forced him to retire in 2011. In his work and personal relationships, he never met a stranger and was well-known for his handlebar mustache. He loved to tell jokes and was always willing to help others with their car repairs, whether at work or home. He dearly loved his family and told them so every day. Steve was a member of Westwood Baptist Church, where he worked in the children’s department and kitchen for many years. He lived a big portion of his childhood and teenage years on Lake Tyler, where water skiing was his passion and he was well known for skiing barefoot. Later in life, he spent many Sundays after church golfing or fishing with his boss, Ewell Dickerson. Steve was preceded in death by his mother, Mildred Ann Boyd and brother, Matthew Boyd. He is survived by his loving family including his wife of 36 years, Suzanne Stagner Boyd of Tyler; son, Scott Boyd of Austin; daughters, Sheriann Boyd and Sara Boyd, both of Tyler; father, Bobby Boyd of Tyler; sisters, Florita Boyd of Allen, Debbie Harris and husband Mike of Whitehouse, Theresa Waldon and husband Phil of Georgetown and Patty Boyd of Ft. Worth; father and mother-in-law Bob Stagner and wife Carolyn of Tyler; brother-in-laws Steve Stagner and wife Lisa of Austin and Stuart Stagner and wife Sue Ann of Las Colinas; eight nieces and nephews; and many friends. Pallbearers will be Mike Collins, Steve Dowell, Randy Robinson, Charles Plyler, Mike Harris, Dan Higgins, Duane Cooper and Gerry McCrary. Honorary pallbearers will be the Dunn Transmissions staff. Thank you to Margie Jackson for all of your love and care for Steve in his final year with us. Visitation is scheduled from 5:00 to7:00 PM on Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway, in Tyler.
