William Colfelt

Services for William Louis Colfelt, 83, of Tyler will be held on Saturday, November 24, 2007 at 3:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church in Tyler with Dr. Stuart Baskin officiating and under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home. Following services will be held at Pritts Funeral Home in Westminster, Maryland at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, November 28, 2007 with Dr. Jack Troutwine officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park in Westminster, Maryland under the direction of Pritts Funeral Home. Mr. Colfelt passed away on November 22, 2007 at East Texas Medical Center in Tyler. He was born on March 6, 1924 in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Harry Patterson and Lillian Kraft Colfelt. He served in the United States Army during World War II and was engaged in the Italian Campaign. He was awarded a Good Conduct Medal, an American Theater Ribbon, a European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, and a World War II Victory Ribbon. Mr. Colfelt was a resident of Tyler, Texas for six years, having relocated from Annapolis, Maryland in 2001. He was retired from Elwood Myers Super Thrift Store in Union Bridge, Maryland. During his career that included positions at Safeway, Inc. and P.A. & S. Small, his responsibilities included overseeing the meat merchandising department for small grocery stores. Mr. Colfelt was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was known for his gardening skills, especially with evergreens, roses, and rhododendrons. After his retirement, he was active on the staff of the General Assembly of Maryland, where he made many dear friends. Mr. Colfelt was preceded in death by his parents and two wives, Helen V. and Elizabeth. He is survived by a loving family including his wife of 23 years, Frieda Jo Colfelt of Tyler; daughter Virginia Elizabeth Arthur and husband James of Ames, Iowa; sons William L.V. Colfelt and wife Ina, and John D. Colfelt and wife Elizabeth, all of Westminster, Maryland; stepchildren Peter H. Anastopulos, Frederick Anastopulos and wife Eileen, L. Maxwell Anastopulos and wife Melanie, Doug Jones, Kent Jones and wife Shelby, and Melanie Hampton; sister, Jeanne Faroane Clark and husband Jim of Tampa, Florida; ten grandchildren; and numerous loving cousins, nephews, and nieces. Pallbearers will be Robert Campbell, William L.V. Colfelt, John David Colfelt, George Perry, George Schlemeyer and Lee Roy Beaty. Pallbearers for services in Maryland will be Robert Campbell, William L.V. Colfelt, John David Colfelt, David Robert Colfelt, Jeff Arthur, and L. Maxwell Anastopulos. Visitation is scheduled for one hour prior to the service on Saturday, November 24, 2007 at 2:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church in Tyler. Visitation at Pritts Funeral Home will be 6:00-8:00 PM on Tuesday, November 27, 2007. Memorials in honor of William Colfelt may be made to a charity of your choice.
