William "Al" Herrington

William Alfred “Al” Herrington went to be with his Lord on June 12, 2017 in Tyler, Texas at the age of 89. Al is survived by his loving wife, best friend and soul mate of 18 years, Gerry Ann Pardue Herrington; sister, Louise Ornelas and husband Joseph of Tyler; brother, Bill Herrington and wife Peggy of Tyler; sister, Ann Kimery of Tyler; daughter, Barbara Trimble and husband Glenn of Tyler; daughter-in-law, Janet Herrington; step-children, David Hans Herrington and wife Karen; Debbie Nichols and husband Jay of Tyler; Mike Pardue and wife Debbie of Flint; Pat Nichols and husband Tommy of Tyler; and Linda Trammell and husband Steve of Flint; grandchildren, Matt Trimble and wife Michelle of Tyler; Jason Trimble and wife Wendy of Tyler; Amiee Kellogg and husband Dave of Austin; Chuck Herrington of Longview; David Herrington and wife Mandy of Tatum; Ricky Paul Herrington and wife Dana of Dallas; Bryan Herrington and wife Simone; Emily Herrington; 26 great-grandchildren, and many, many friends. Al was preceded in death by his parents Bill and Minnie Lou Herrington; first wife and mother of children, Ellen Margaret Herrington; son, Bruce Herrington; brother, Charles Herrington; sisters, Jean Lancaster and Ellen Thurman. Al was born August 30, 1927 to Bill and Minnie Lou Herrington in Arp, Texas and lived there until moving to Tyler in 2016. A veteran of World War II, Al joined the U.S. Navy at the age of 16 and served from August 1944 through June of 1946. He was deployed to the South Pacific and served the amphibious forces on the USS Fergus. Al said, on many occasions, that he grew up in the South Pacific. Al and Gerry were members of Flint Baptist Church in Flint, Texas. Over 35 years ago, Al founded the Sonrise Prayer Fellowship group which is still active and going strong today. As a servant of the Lord, Al took on the task of listening and ministering to thousands of families in need. Because of that great role, City of Tyler Mayor, Barbara Bass proclaimed May 20, 2014 “Al Herrington Day.” Al had a love for people and community and always had a pocket full of crosses which he handed out to people he came in contact with. Many of you have probably been handed a cross by Al at some point! Al was known as a man who never met a stranger and had a bubbly personality. He will be missed by many. One of Al’s favorite verses, which he quoted often, was John 8:7 “... He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone.” Visitation is at Stewart Family Funeral Home Thursday, June 15, 2017 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Services will be held in the Stewart Family Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, June 16, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. with Brad Harvey officiating. Burial will follow at the Mason Cemetery in Arp, Texas. Pallbearers are Matt Trimble, Jason Trimble, Chuck Herrington, David Herrington, Ricky Paul Herrington, Bryan Herrington and Dave Kellogg. Honorary pallbearers are members of the Sonrise Prayer Fellowship. Memorials may be made to the Sonrise Prayer Fellowship at 914 Troup Hwy, Tyler, TX 75701 or Heart to Heart Hospice at 7925 S.
