William "Bill" Toon

William Derald “Bill” Toon, beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, coach, and friend, passed away on August 14th, 2026. To know Bill was to know laughter. He was the life of the party, with a smile that could brighten any room and a sense of humor that made everyone feel welcome. Responsible, dependable, kindhearted, he was someone family, friends, students, and fellow coaches could always count on. He never met a stranger, and his genuine love for people left a lasting impression on everyone he met. Bill was born on February 27th, 1967, in New Boston, Texas, to Ronnie Mack Toon and Linda Fay Henderson Toon. He shared a unique and lifelong bond with his twin brother Robert Gerald Toon. Bill married his high school sweetheart, Ronda Bowman Toon, and together they built a life centered on faith, family, and unwavering love. For 36 years, Bill dedicated his life to education as a football and golf coach, serving faithfully at Paul Pewitt Consolidated School District, Jefferson ISD, Gladewater ISD, Chapel Hill ISD, Rusk ISD, and Henderson ISD. More than teaching sports, Bill taught young people about character, discipline, perseverance, and confidence. His influence reached far beyond the playing field, and the lives he touched will continue to reflect his example for years to come. Outside of coaching, Bill found great joy in playing golf, fishing, and traveling. At the age of nine, Bill accepted Jesus Christ as his savior and remained a faithful Christian throughout his life. His faith guided his decisions, strengthened his family, and was the foundation upon which he lived. He was a proud father to Katie Lee Toon and Kerri Jo Holonich. His greatest joy was being Poppy to his grandsons Bo Daniel, Travis, and Atticus. His family was his world and nothing brought him more happiness than spending time with them. Though our hearts are broken by his passing, we’re profoundly grateful for every year we were blessed to share with Bill. His laughter, steadfast faith, Servant’s heart, and unconditional love will never be forgotten. His legacy lives on in the lives he shaped, the students he mentored, the family he cherished, and the countless friends who were blessed to know him. Memorial services for Bill will be held Saturday, August 22, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Emerald Bay Community Church in Bullard. Honorary pallbearers will be Preston Weeks, Thomas Sitton, Jeff Hogg, Jeff Carroll, Bob Toon, Richard Hart, Dale Moore, Randy Barnard, Barry Bowman, Steven Holonich, and Bob Williams.
